Mournes Mountains

THE MOURNES.

The Mournes Mountains are located in the North of Ireland. It includes the highest mountains in the North at Slieve Donard which culminate the area at 850m. The Mournes are an area of outstanding natural beauty. From the top of it and by a clear day, one can see the coast of Wales to the West and Scotland to the North.

MEELMORE – SLIEVE COMMEDAGH- SLIEVE DONARD.

The hike starts from Meelmore Lodge on the North face of the Mournes Mountain.

Then, we follow the track to Trassey river and climb straight to Slievenaglogh. We then, follow the Mournes Wall which is 36 km made of dry stones as far as Slieve Donard which is the highest mountain in the North of Ireland at 849m. After a break and admiring the view, we return to Meelmore Lodge by Brandy Pad.

Duration around 7 hours with breaks included.

Grade = Hard

Terrain = Forestry tracks, off trails and mostly trails.
